Body Worlds Expo now in Amsterdam

It might not be everyone’s cup of tea but for the first time Gunther von Hagens’ Body World Exposition lands in Amsterdam. Millions of people around the world have already visited this expo in other cities. It’s a chance to get up close and see what’s inside the human body. The theme of this expo in Amsterdam is cardiology and the heart. More then 200 actual human bodies have been treated in such way that they can be preserved and put on display. You will be able to see the inner organs, muscles and other real intestines. The expo started january 12 and ends on april 22nd 2012. Hotels near the Open air film festival in Amsterdam

Starting August 4th 2011 you can enjoy free movies on a big screen in the open air. The location is along the river IJ on the opposite side of the botel in Amsterdam north. (Click here for the location on the map. ) The movies begin when it starts to get dark.  You can view national and international movies that haven’t quite made it to the big screen cinemas. Open house at Ajax football club – Visit Amsterdam Arena free

On August 3rd 2011 the famous Ajax football club presents it’s players for the new season and opens the doors of the Amsterdam Arena to everybody. Admission is free and the event starts at 10.00. It ends at around 16.30 Visit website

Appelsap (translation: apple juice) is a relatively new music festival in the Oosterpark of Amsterdam. It started out with hip hop and soul music but electronic music and jazz have been added to attract a more diverse crowd. The event is on juli 31st 2011 from 12:00-23:00 and tickets cost 15 euro. Amsterdam Gay Pride is a yearly returning festival that lasts for a week. The highlight is the parade of boats on the canals with music, costumes and dancing. This year the parade will be held on Saturday August 6th 2011 starting at 14:00. The boats will start sailing from Westerdok (close to the botel in Amsterdam North) on to the Prinsengracht and further through the Amstel and Oude Schans. The boats will end at Oosterdok around 6.00 p.m.  Below is a map of the route. As you can see the route for the most part goes through the most outer canal named Prince’s Canal (Prinsengracht ). Be on time to get a good view of the parade. Hotels overlooking the Prince’s Canal are Hotel Pulitzer, Wiechmann Hotel, Dikker en Thijs Fenice Hotel.
